Every network marketer hears this question over and over again throughout his or her career. Get used to it.
But there is a right way and a wrong way to answer this question. The wrong way involves any kind of deception or evasiveness. This is what gives network marketing a bad name.
It is also what makes you and the people you bring into your business feel sleazy and it is a big reason why people get out of the business.
No one wants their friends or relatives thinking they are doing something sleazy. Even if you have no problem with this approach, the people you sponsor will. And they will eventually quit because you have only taught them a way to recruit that makes them feel awful. People can only take that feeling just so much before they get out.
So what is the right way to answer the “Is it network marketing?” question?
Try this:
If by “network marketing,” you mean bugging your friends and relatives, the answer is “no.” But, if you mean using the internet to help people who have asked you to show them how to earn extra income, the answer is “yes.”
If this person is still not interested, move on. But you will find that a lot of people do not object to network marketing as a business model, they merely object to bugging people and feeling dishonest. You will be surprised at how many people are more receptive to you if you are honest and forthright about being in network marketing, and who may actually be interested if they only talk to people who have asked for your information.
